Every Convoloid gear pair is micro engineered and designed specifically for minimum contact stress, bending stress, and acceptable surface condition factors of specific film thickness, scuffing resistance, and minimized flash temperatures for the lubricant being used in the gear system. Currently this detailed analysis is applied to parallel axis gear systems including multi-pass gear transmissions of all types and all types of epicyclics. Successful analyses of Convoloids competing with involutes have been completed with pitch line velocities approaching 100 m/s. The Convoloid form is described in an X-Y coordinate system and can be designed as a spur or helical type. Due to its inherently digital format to describe the tooth surface an important feature of Convoloid gearing is that it is totally compatible with the existing CNC gear manufacturing and inspection infrastructure presently in use around the world.
